Meet Jenn
Jennifer Berry can help you safely achieve your specific goals through a balanced, full-body workout.
Whether you want to comfortably hike mountains with stable knees, gain better balance for fall prevention, build arm and grip strength, learn techniques to maintain good posture over long hours at the computer, achieve better pelvic stability, or simply feel strong, Pilates can help!
How it works:
The basis of movement begins with the use of one’s own body weight as muscular resistance on a stable surface called The Mat. This establishes a foundation for more intense exercises offered by various apparatuses. The Reformer is a non-weight-bearing system of resistance with spring tension and pulleys against a moving mat called a carriage. Exercises are performed seated, lying, kneeling and standing. The mind focuses on the precision of movement through knowledge, focus, and breath. Berry Pilates offers a full suite of Pilates equipment to help you continue adding challenge, including the Cadillac/Trapeze table, Wunda Chair, Spine Corrector, Ladder barrel, Ped-a-pull, magic circle, and more.
About Jenn
Jennifer has an inviting, caring, and fun personality. Her passion for helping others understand their body through Pilates shines through in her teaching. She helps individuals develop a functional fitness routine that enhances everyday activities to achieve specific goals by rebalancing the body.
Jenn couples this appraoch with decades of professional experience and in-depth study to create challenging and safe Pilates workouts for all ages and body types.
Jennifer holds a Bachelor of Fine Art in Dance Performance and Choreography from the College Conservatory of Music Cincinnati. Once graduated, she began dancing professionally in 1995 and toured throughout the US with notable ballet and modern companies. In her quest to stay injury free, she found Pilates with Jacqui Hass, the physical therapist for Cincinnati Ballet. Jennifer realized she wanted more knowledge of the body and how it moved biomechanically.
She received her Master of Fine Arts from University of California Irvine in Dance Science and Kinesiology in 2002. While completing her masters, she became a certified Pilates instructor via The Pilates Center of Orange County, California. This early Pilates education was given by Joseph Pilates' protégé Ron Fletcher and his mentee, Diane Diefenderfer. Ron’s method of infusing his Graham background (dance) with movements from Mr. Pilates himself sparked a life-long love and journey of Pilates within Jennifer. Along that path, Jennifer has had the honor of continuing her education with many Pilates superstars, including Jillian Hessel in Los Angeles (2015-2021), a protege of Kathy Grant. Since 2022, Jennifer has been studying with biomechanist and ergonomist Shari Berkowitz of The Vertical Workshop program.
In 2006, Jennifer established Berry Pilates and taught at Pilates studios throughout southern California. In 2012, Jennifer opened her own studio on Melrose Ave and LaBrea in LA. This quickly led to celebrities and other professionals visiting the studio regularly, as well as expecting mothers, new dads, professional athletes, and bodies of all types.
In 2004, Jenn met her husband, Rob, while taking aerial classes. He is a renowned circus multi club/ball juggler and stilt acrobatic performer who toured throughout Europe and Russia with Sir Paul McCartney in 2004. Since then, they have taken their relationship to new “heights” by performing together—and ultimately getting married on stilts in 2010! Together, they formed Gravity Circus while living in Hollywood and working in variety entertainment/film production throughout LA for 20+ years. In 2021, they brought their talents to Burlington to be near family. They continue performing and teaching as well as curating circus arts entertainment for venues throughout Vermont and nationwide. www.gravitycircus.com
